When Kurt McKee decided to open The Box Office, a new boxing studio in Grey Lynn, he wanted to ensure it appealed to people who may not have considered boxing before, by having classes designed for beginners through to professionals, as well as options specifically for women, kids and teens. With this goal in mind, the spaces were carefully designed to be light, open and welcoming, and when looking for that unique lighting layout, a member was quick to recommend Bright Light.

Bright Light’s ability to produce custom-built large-scale luminaires with a fast turn - being made right here in New Zealand, made everything easy. The lighting concept involved three-metre wide suspended crosses, from Bright Light’s Highline 05 Luminaire Custom-build. With a powder-coated black finish and a 4000K - CRI>90 white LED ribbon, the luminaires provided a natural light feel, well-lit and inviting space. They were suspended in a line above the main punching bag and mat work area, with one cross also used over the kitchen space.

The main feature was an impressive custom-built three-metre square (also using Highline 05 50mm) suspended directly over the boxing ring itself, creating a stunning effect and significant talking point. The overall lighting effect was assisted with the use of RGB LED ribbon installed behind a large wall mirror and along two of the wall trims, providing a pop of colour to the space.  Bright Light’s Unipro track & Metro track lights were also used in key locations for spot lighting of wall artwork.

The Box Office team were all very impressed with the lighting result and are keen to roll out similar lighting treatment to all their branches. Well done to Kurt & the team for creating such a trendy and inviting space for people to work out and improve their health, mind and body.
